Enemas can be very effective when used on an occasional basis and administered in the right way, but there are many issues associated with enemas that can actually create more problems that they solve. Remember, if you use tap water, you do not only kill good bacteria that is in your colon with the chlorine contained in the water, but you also inject microscopic parasites directly into your colon!
When you do enema, there is a chance for the lower part of the colon to balloon out, lose its elasticity and be permanently damaged. Another problem with enemas is that they don’t reach the small intestine, which is actually where a lot of the fecal impaction may reside. But, even if it were possible, you wouldn’t want to force contaminated water from the colon into the small intestine, from which you absorb your nutrients.
